Overview:
Clash at Demonhead is a popular band in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World After watching the movie and familarizing myself with the comics I wanted to redesign their brand identity into something which fits the aesthetic of their music and energy. This is a project I deicided to do for my Senior Capstone graphic design class for my senior year at Queens College.
Demonhead Concept:
I’m rebranding Clash at Demonhead with a sleeker, more modern look that fits today’s punk-pop and alt-rock scene. I’ll refine their logo with dynamic typography and a cohesive visual system, possibly adding metallic or chrome accents for a high-production feel. The rebrand includes a new album cover and tour posters to give them a fresh, unified identity while staying true to their bold energy.
Logo Redesign Process
To start the logo redesign, I decided to modernize the band’s name from Clash at Demonhead to simply Demonhead. This change streamlines the brand, making it more impactful, memorable, and marketable. Many successful contemporary bands have short, punchy names that are easier to recognize and visually stronger in branding. Dropping “The Clash At” removes unnecessary complexity while keeping the essence of the band’s identity.
With this new name, the logo will evolve to reflect a more refined, modern aesthetic. I’ll experiment with sleek, sharp typography that conveys energy and power, possibly integrating subtle metallic textures or geometric distortions to maintain their signature futuristic edge.
Moodboard and First Drafts
The typography mood board highlights a symmetrical motif, grunge textures, and sharp, angular serifs. I noticed a consistent balance in letterforms, with exaggerated serifs adding a bold, dynamic edge. The grunge elements enhance the raw, distressed aesthetic, reinforcing the band's rebellious energy which is what I carried over to my first few sketches.
Feedback and Revisions
After critiques, I stuck with the first rendition as it was the most legible. I enlarged the horns on the "D" for a more dramatic look and balanced it by exaggerating the top of the "N." On the left, I added another set of horns, while on the right, I experimented with a pair of eyes. I chose the fifth variation and designed two secondary logomarks: a butterfly icon using the "D"’s outer curves and the "N"’s eyes, and a Demonhead combining the horns and eyes and it was finally time to transfer this to Adobe Illustrator and vectorize it.
Vectors and 3D Renders
Moving from Procreate on my iPad to Adobe Illustrator and Dimension and simplified and smoothed the paths to make the typograpghy and icons more streamlined and clean. I still wanted to keep the original characteristics of the hand-drawn type so I didn’t alter much to keep it unique. Then on Adobe Dimension I was able to add a metallic texture and adjust the lighting to render it out.
Final Logo and 3D Render Showcase
I used Procreate for hand-drawn typography, Adobe Illustrator to convert it to vectors and refining details and finally Adobe Dimension for 3D modeling and texturing and Blender for rendering.
Demonhead Vinyl Album Cover
The Demonhead Vol. 1 vinyl album cover embodies the band’s sleek, edgy aesthetic with a bold metallic logo and high-contrast visuals. The vinyl texture adds depth, while tribal graphics and barbed wire elements enhance the heavy metal influence. Both primary and secondary logos are incorporated for a cohesive, structured layout that modernizes Demonhead’s identity while staying true to its intense, high-energy style.
The Demonhead Vol. 1 back cover reinforces the album’s dark, high-energy aesthetic with bold typography and distorted visuals. The black-and-white stencil-style images add a raw, grunge-inspired feel, while the circular vinyl texture ties into the front cover. Tribal accents and barcode elements enhance the industrial, modern look, creating a cohesive design that reflects Demonhead’s intense and hypnotic sound.
Vinyl Mockups
An additional detail I wanted to emphasize during mockup was to make sure the vinyl textures on both the cover and the actual vinyl match up. Making sure to include wear and tear also matches the band’s edgy aesthetic.
Tour Poster Design
I carried over the black-and-white stencil-style from the back of the album cover when i created this digital photo college and then created two poster drafts. I went with the second one because putting it next to the other delieverables it is the most cohesive.
